To better understand the regulation of the profession

The Barreau du Québec releases informative video clips intended for Indigenous communities

Share

To raise awareness of its mission to ensure the protection of the public and the role of the Office of the syndic, the Barreau du Québec is launching four informative video clips created specifically for First Nations and Inuit audiences. These aim to strengthen the confidence of Indigenous citizens in the regulatory mechanisms of the profession.

The video clips address topics such as the lawyer’s role of protecting its clients’ rights, the importance of the Code of Professional Conduct of Lawyers, the Barreau’s mission to ensure the protection of the public, the role of the Syndic, and the different types of lawyers’ fees.

The Barreau has produced these capsules in response to one of the recommendations made in the Rapport sur la situation de la Cour itinérante au Nunavik, published in 2022 by Mtre   Jean-Claude Latraverse. The production of the capsules is part of the Barreau du Québec’s action plan to fostering justice in the North. To ensure that they reach the target public, they have been produced in three languages: Inuktitut, French and English.

With this initiative, the Barreau du Québec wishes to demonstrate its commitment, in cooperation with the justice agencies and communities, to deploying additional resources in order to carry out its mission of protecting the public in the North.
