Wills and mandates
Search for a will or mandate
Are you looking for a will or a protection mandate? You must search through the Registers of wills and mandates of the Barreau du Québec.
Please note that due to the closure of our offices during the holiday season, search requests received after December 10, 2024 will not be processed until January 2025.
Resumption of Canada Post Services
To mitigate the inconvenience caused by the Canada Post strike, the Barreau had been sending unofficial copies of will search or mandate certificates in PDF format via email.
With the resumption of Canada Post services, we will return to mailing the original certificates by post as of December 17, 2024.
As a result, it is no longer possible to pick up these documents at the Maison du Barreau in Montreal.
For any additional questions, please contact Info-Barreau, Monday to Friday, from 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.:

Thank you for your understanding.
Perform a search
With this search, you can obtain a search certificate confirming whether a will or mandate has been registered in the Registers of wills and mandates of the Barreau du Québec. If a will or mandate has been registered, you will obtain the contact information of the lawyer who has the document in question and you will be able to retrieve it from that lawyer.
It is important to also contact the Chambre des notaires du Québec to perform the same search so you can obtain a search certificate regarding the registers kept with respect to notaries.
