Access to the profession

The Committee also has the final say on whether or not applicants should be admitted, as the permit to practice is issued based on the Committee’s report.

The Committee exercises its powers on a continuous basis, from the time applicants to the profession apply for admission to the École de formation professionnelle du Barreau du Québec until they apply to be entered on the Roll of the Order. The Committee for Access to the Profession may decide at any time during this period to summon an applicant or a student to inquire about matters within its authority.

Applicants seeking admission to the profession who, upon entering the École de formation professionnelle, submit a file that does not require the Committee to inquire may be entered on the Roll without ever being called before the Committee. Without necessarily wanting to meet with an applicant, Committee members may consider it necessary to obtain certain written details from an applicant. Finally, Committee members may want to meet with an applicant.

The admissions office will contact you to clarify the situation, if necessary. Please note that the Committee has all the powers of the Superior Court to summon any witness, including the applicant, to appear before it to testify and to file any document.
