Netiquette
Netiquette is the set of conventions governing the behaviour of Internet users applicable to the publication of content on digital platforms owned or controlled by the Barreau du Québec (the “Barreau”).
Comments on the Barreau’s digital platforms are encouraged and welcome. Publications and exchanges must, however, be harmonious. The Barreau is counting on the good judgment of Internet users to show courtesy and respect in their interventions. The Barreau reserves the right to delete, without notice, comments that do not respect the following rules of good conduct:
- Before publishing a comment, check that it pertains to the original subject; comments not on point may be deleted.
- The use of uppercase letters amounts to screaming and may be interpreted as aggression; use uppercase letters only for abbreviations and acronyms.
- Insulting or aggressive comments have no place. Personal attacks will not be tolerated and will be deleted.
- No advertising is permitted.
- A hyperlink may be inserted in a comment provided it is relevant and is not used as a disguise for advertising.
- Hateful, defamatory, threatening, racist, homophobic, sexist, sexual or otherwise unlawful comments will not be tolerated.
- Check the source of the information you publish in order to avoid disinformation and rumours. Cite your references.
- Unfounded accusations, the publication of illegal content, the distortion of facts, the presentation of lies or disinformation, as well as attempts at excessive polemics or partisanship and the presentation of propaganda (direct or indirect) will not be tolerated.
- The Barreau values privacy. Please do not include any personal information (e.g.: telephone number, e-mail address, information on a legal case, etc.) in your comments.
- All comments are read and considered. It is useless to keep repeating the same comment over and over again.
- The Barreau reserves the right to delete a comment written in a language other than French or English.
Those who do not respect these rules of good conduct may have their comment deleted without notice.
The Barreau reserves the right not to reply to a comment whose author is not clearly identified (anonymous account or account suspected of using a false identity).
The Barreau’s moderators are quick to spot trolls (individuals who persist in initiating discussions on subjects that annoy or deliberately sow discord among several people) and spammers. The moderators will systematically block any such account.
The Barreau reserves the right to modify this netiquette without notice.
